The generosity of the MBIA membership through the recession is one of the first signs of economic recovery in the building industry. Members raised thousands of dollars to better the lives of young mothers through the organization’s annual Christmas Charity Auction.
The auction is an event where companies make in-kind donations of goods and services. Auction attendees then bid on the donated items to raise money for a local nonprofit organization that has a building project.
In 2010, volunteers directed their efforts towards helping Mountain Home Montana build transitional living apartments for young mothers and their babies. Mountain Home Montana is a nonprofit organization providing transitional living home and services for homeless young women ages 16-24 who are pregnant or parenting. They provide a safe environment for babies and mothers to live while mothers learn essential life skills that will allow them to become self-sufficient and make a positive contribution to society. The expansion provided five more one and two bedroom units in addition the six units in the older building.
In addition to the main recipient, every year funds are given to NorthWestern Energy’s Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) and the Missoula Food Bank. LIHEAP ensures that low-income Missoula area families can afford to stay warm during the winter months. The Missoula Food Bank is able to provide food and nourishment for one in eight Missoula County residents.
MBIA, a non-profit association, understands supporting the efforts of other local non-profits. MBIA members are proud to make a difference in the community. We look forward to continuing our support. If your organization is interested in being considered as a recipient of the funds raised during the Christmas Charity Auction, please contact the MBIA office at 543-4423 to fill out an application. Application deadline is August 17th.
